Strasbourg, France

There is no more of a charming city during the holidays than Strasbourg, France. My friend, Alicia, and I joined an excursion group from AWC-Zurich and took a bus there for the day. It was extremely cold, but the holiday atmosphere, shopping, and good company more than made up for it.

This is one of the main entrances to the down-town area. Beneath the name it says, "Capitale de Noel" or Christmas Capital. But would it live up to the name?

Every street was lined with wooden stalls with owners selling anything from hand-made soaps and candles to ornaments and ceramic kitchen wear. There were toys and jewelry and every type of bread and sweet treat.

It was also fun exploring the surrounding neighborhood and seeing how Swiss city life compares to French. (They have better bread and everything is less expensive)

Every street had different decorations and every store participated in decorating above their store front. It started snowing as we were leaving and was just beautiful. We had a great day and got quite a bit of Christmas shopping accomplished. This is on my calendar for 2011. I'll just have to bring bigger bags to pack all goodies back!
